IFLA/WINE Satellite Conference in Tampere, August 2012

About 40 members from WINE, Women’s Information Network Europe, and the IFLA Women, Information and Libraries Special Interest Group gathered in Tampere, Finland for our first joint meeting. It took place 8th – 10th August and had the theme “How can library and information centres improve access to women’s information and preserve women’s cultural heritage?”

The papers consisted of reports from various projects from all over the world: Collecting women’s memories in India, Namibia and the US, documenting the history of women librarians, digitizing feminist texts, using social media to inform about your work, etc.

The conference was a great opportunity to meet colleagues from our own field, to discuss and network.  We also made a bus tour around Tampere and its beautiful outskirts and had the pleasure of seeing the City Hall from inside, at a reception on Wednesday evening.

The conference was very well organized, everything worked smoothly. The organizers from WINE, IFLA and MINNA had all done a great job and are worth a warm Thank you!
